Palekastro is situated on the road from Sitia to Vai and close to the Moni Toplou monastery which is one of the best preserved monasteries of Crete. In 1989 a crumbling traditional house was bought and restoration began immediately to turn this into the Folklore Museum of Palekastro. The museum exhibits objects from around the region and visitors can view the everyday household items and tools that were used by generations of people dating from the Turkish occupation up until 1960.You will get a true picture of an authentic Cretan house.
