Maleme is a small seaside village just 16km west of Chania. It has a few hotels and other types of accommodation along with several restaurants it also has a butchers, supermarket and other shops for everyday needs, a medical centre, and police station.

Maleme’s beach is fine pebbles and much less crowded than more commercial locations. Nightlife is quieter than larger holiday resorts but still and bars and discos where you can enjoy the night. Maleme is best know as the place where German paratroopers invaded Crete in 1941 and today the German war cemetery is located in the hills above Maleme.
